Unrivaled Magazine is thrilled to
present you an exclusive interview with a very talented young man by the name
of Jeremy Cormier. His entertainment projects range from working productions featuring Nicki Minaj, Ludacris, T.I, Shirley Murdock ,and a host of
others. Cormier’s background and
experience is pretty extensive for such a young age and he continues to build
his resume. He is excited to make his Directorial Debut this year in Louisiana
with his own production at the Heymann Performing Arts Center titled, “Even A
Good Man Is Tempted.”
UM: For
those who may not be familiar, tell everyone a little bit about your background
and where you are from?
I am originally from Louisiana. I was raised in St. Martinville (Cade), and Lafayette, Louisiana. I graduated from St.
Thomas More High School. I currently reside in Atlanta, Ga. where I attended
Morehouse College and obtained an undergraduate degree in Business
Administration. I also obtained a Masters of Business Administration in 2012
from South University.
UM: What
made you want to write and produce your very own stage play?
Many different factors, my mom and dad took me to my 1st
stage play at the Heymann Center to see a production titled “Be Careful What You Pray For”staring
Shirley Murdock. Seeing this production is what sparked my interest in the
arts. I was also called to work my 1st stage play by a family member
titled “The Life Story of Marvin Gaye.”
From that point on I was called on to work with many other stage productions. I
really enjoy the energy. I have been doing this for about 10 years, and love entertaining
people. I also wanted to fulfill my goal of producing my very own first stage
play before I turned the age of 30.
UM: Who
are some of your major influences in the industry and what do you feel sets you
apart from them?
I can’t contribute my influences to one single person. I do
remember watching the dvd of Tyler Perry’s stage play Diary of A Mad Black Woman and being inspired from his words at the
end when asked about his inspiration. A few to name are JD
Lawrence, Je’Caryous Johnson, and David Talbert who I spoke with for hours and
he gave some great advice and motivation. I would also have to say my cousin
Derek Wilson, who has toured the world with many greats. What sets me apart
is that I started out selling program books for these shows; I truly started
from the very bottom. I also have training and knowledge from some of the
industry’s greatest.
UM: Where
did the inspiration for your upcoming play “Even A Good Man Is Tempted” come
from?
My inspiration came from a combination of many things. A few of those would be TV, my life (for certain parts), family, friends, and everything around me. I have a diverse
background, so you get to see a little bit of everything.
UM:
Without giving too much away, tell everyone what they can expect from “Even A
Good Man is Tempted.”
They can expect to be entertained with great acting. A good
guy has a plan to find love, but sometimes things happen when we don’t even
know it is right in front of our eyes.
UM: How
did you go about the selection of the cast?
I did not hold any auditions. The cast selected were people
that I have already worked with and admired their talents.
UM:
What’s next for Jeremy Cormier Presents?
God willing and the success of this production, I would like
to take the play to 10-15 different cities on a tour. I hope to continue to
build capital for my production company & do this until the day I die. I would also like to cross over into movies, other entertainment projects, possibly reality TV,
and last but not least service projects. I want to give back to the community.
UM: Where should everyone who wants to keep up with all of
your current and upcoming projects go to follow your journey?
